What is Cosmelan?
The Cosmelan® De-Pigmentation Pro Treatment is a professional in-clinic procedure designed to eliminate or reduce dark spots, discolourations, dull skin tone caused by sun damage, hyperpigmentation and skin ageing of the face.
Cosmelan’s unique formula is the result of years of research – with impressive, clinically proven results showing up to 95% reduction of age spots and pigmentation in the majority of cases.

What does a Cosmelan treatment involve?
Pre Treatment Consultation: Prior to your booking a Cosmelan De-Pigmentation Pro Treatment, it is recommended that you book a complimentary skin consultation with one of Brazilian Beauty’s Cosmelan trained Dermal Therapists or Medical Practitioners.
During your consultation, your Dermal Therapist or Medical Practitioner will assess your skin’s needs and suitability as well as thoroughly explain the Cosmelan treatment process so that you are fully prepared and understand the steps you must follow to achieve maximum results.
In-Clinic Procedure: During your Cosmelan De-Pigmentation Pro in-clinic procedure, your Dermal Therapist or Medical Practitioner will start by cleansing and preparing your skin with a specialised solution that will remove surface oils, debris and dead skin cells.
Once your skin is thoroughly cleansed, the Cosmelan de-pigmenting mask is applied to the entire face and left to take effect for a minimum of eight hours. Your Dermal Therapist or Medical Practitioner may instruct you to leave the mask on for a longer period but usually no longer than 12 hours. Of course, during the activation time, you will be able to return home, however you will be advised not to touch the mask until it is time for you to remove it.
At-home Procedure: After your Cosmelan mask has been activating for your prescribed length of time, you will be required to simply wash the mask off with cool water and apply your recovery products, as instructed, for the next 72 hours.
In-Clinic Follow Up: 3 days after your Cosmelan® De-Pigmentation Pro in-clinic procedure you will return to the clinic for a post treatment review and soothing LED recovery facial to assist and support your skin through the healing process.
You will notice peeling of the treated skin beginning approximately 48-72 hours after your in-clinic procedure. This peeling will last approximately three days with resulting pigment reduction noticeable after 7-10 days.
At-Home Maintenance: At home, you will continue to support the de-pigmentation process by following your prescribed home care program using the products included in your Cosmelan Home Essentials Pack. The Cosmelan home maintenance product program must be adhered to for the next six months for effective results.
In-Clinic Skin Maintenance: To further support results, it is recommended to continue with LED skin treatments as well as having an ASI Pro Peel or Vita A Peel every 8-12 weeks.

POST TREATMENT ADVICE
- Cosmelan De-pigmentation PRO treatment is an intensive resurfacing treatment that provides up to 10-12 days of downtime.
- Red, swollen and warm skin for the first 3 days post treatment.
- Peeling and dryness can be expected for up to 7-10 days.
- No direct sun exposure throughout the downtime and always wear an SPF to protect your skin and your result.
- It is imperative that ONLY products from the home care package are used during the follow-up phase to achieve the best possible outcome but also minimise the incidence of reactions.
- This follow-up phase is carried out for 6 months to achieve an optimal result and prevent the reappearance of spots.

Are there any contraindications?
Yes, in some cases, such as during pregnancy, breastfeeding or if you are taking certain medication, you will not be able to have a Cosmelan De-Pigmentation Pro treatment. During your initial consultation, your Dermal Therapist or Medical Practitioner will perform a thorough assessment and flag any concerns.
Is there any downtime?
There is usually 3-4 days of skin redness and mild to moderate peeling can be experienced for 7-10 days.
Can Cosmelan be used on all skin types?
While the Cosmelan De-Pigmentation Pro treatment can be used on all skin fitzpatricks (from dark to fair) and ethnicities, the treatment is best suited for people concerned with pigmentation, melasma, sun damage and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused from acne.
How long does the Cosmelan in-clinic procedure take?
The Cosmelan® De-Pigmentation Pro in-clinic procedure takes 30 minutes. It involves the professional application of the active Cosmelan mask which is left on the skin for up to 8-12 hours, as per your skin type and as instructed by your Dermal Therapist or Medical Practitioner.

Can Cosmelan be applied to the neck, chest & hands?
No, the Cosmelan in-clinic procedure is recommended for treatment of the facial area only. However, the Cosmelan home care products have been shown to give excellent results in reducing hyperpigmentation on the neck, chest and back of hands, and can be used on these areas as part of your ongoing home care program.
