What causes volume loss?
Volume loss is a natural part of the aging process, primarily driven by the gradual depletion of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid in the skin. These essential components provide structure, elasticity, and hydration to the skin. As we age, our bodies produce less of these substances, leading to a loss of volume, firmness, and resilience.
Factors contributing to volume loss include:
Biological Ageing
The natural aging process initiates a gradual decline in collagen and elastin production within the skin. These structural proteins are essential for maintaining skin elasticity, firmness, and volume. As their levels diminish over time, the skin loses its ability to retain moisture and bounce back, resulting in reduced volume and the formation of wrinkles and sagging.
Gravity
Gravity exerts a constant downward force on the facial tissues, causing them to gradually descend over time. This gravitational pull contributes to the sagging of skin and deeper facial structures, leading to a loss of fullness and definition. Areas most affected by gravity-induced volume loss include the cheeks, jowls, and jawline, where skin laxity becomes more pronounced.
Sun Damage
Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is a significant contributor to volume loss. UV rays penetrate the skin, triggering the production of destructive enzymes that break down collagen and elastin fibers. As a result, the skin loses its structural support, leading to diminished volume, increased sagging, and the development of fine lines and wrinkles.
Lifestyle Choices
Unhealthy lifestyle choices can accelerate the aging process and exacerbate volume loss. Factors such as smoking, poor nutrition, and inadequate skincare practices can all contribute to premature aging of the skin. Smoking, for example, exposes the skin to harmful toxins and free radicals, which accelerate collagen breakdown and impair skin regeneration. Similarly, a diet lacking essential nutrients deprives the skin of vital building blocks for collagen synthesis and repair, leading to decreased volume and elasticity. Inadequate skincare, including failure to use sunscreen and neglecting proper hydration, further compromises the skin’s ability to maintain its volume and resilience.
Genetics
Individual genetic predispositions play a crucial role in determining how quickly volume loss occurs and where it manifests on the face. While everyone experiences some degree of volume loss as they age, genetic factors can influence the rate and extent of these changes.

PRP Vampire Facial
The PRP Vampire Facial is an advanced skincare treatment that harnesses the natural healing properties of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). During the procedure, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP, which is rich in growth factors and cytokines. The PRP is then applied to the skin or combined with microneedling to enhance absorption.
PRP stimulates collagen production, which is crucial for maintaining skin volume and elasticity. By triggering the skin’s natural healing response, the PRP Vampire Facial helps to restore lost volume, improve skin texture, and enhance overall skin health. Find out more.
Skin Needling
Skin Needling, or microneedling, involves the controlled creation of micro-injuries in the skin, prompting the natural healing process and stimulating collagen and elastin production. This results in increased skin volume and firmness, effectively addressing signs of aging such as volume loss and fine lines. Find out more.
LED Light Therapy
LED Light Therapy utilizes specific wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular activity. By promoting collagen synthesis and improving skin elasticity, it restores volume and vitality, offering a gentle yet effective solution for lasting skin rejuvenation. Find out more.
