Redness can appear on the skin at any age or stage in life. It can occur for a multiple of reasons and is almost always a result of an abnormal heightened reaction of your skin. Facial sensitivity and redness can present itself as anything from a red nose to red blotches or just unusually flushed cheeks. Redness of your skin may often be temporary but some skin conditions including rosacea, broken capillaries and flushing require more intense and specialised treatment.

For a tailored treatment plan and specific advice, come and see us to discuss your particular needs and how we may help you reduce the visibility of capillaries and minimise, or possibly actually eliminate, redness.

What causes facial redness?

There are a number of factors that can contribute to redness, including rosacea, allergy or sensitivity, acne, broken capillaries and sometimes even hormonal imbalances.

What causes broken capillaries?

Capillaries, the small veins just below the surface of the skin, are fragile and very easily damaged. Once they are damaged, they are particularly difficult to repair naturally on their own, but easy to treat. These small red and sometimes purple veins become extremely prominent when the vein walls dilate, and are visible through the skin. Redness can also be caused by the change in weather, harsh skin care products and medication. The good news is broken capillaries are also the easiest to minimise, despite factors like genetics. The most common reasons for vein dilation include:

  • Weakness in the vein wall.
  • Sun exposure.
  • Genetics.
  • High consumption of alcohol.
  • Harsh physical contact.

HOW CAN I TREAT SKIN REDNESS?

Of the treatments available for facial redness and sensitivity the most beneficial are LED Light Therapy and IPL Skin Rejuvenation. It is important when treating redness to understand the factors that trigger your condition. Minimising sun exposure for example, and avoiding particular foods or rapid temperature changes, can contribute positively to keeping your skin evenly toned and healthy in appearance. Natural products such as Vitamin C, Vitamin B, macadamia and avocado can assist in calming the skin and preventing flare-ups. Perhaps the most important factor of all is keeping your skin well-hydrated, clean and thoroughly protected from the sun. Below, we’ve outlined some of things that you can do, as well as treatments we offer, to target this skin concern and help repair and renew your skin.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Use fresh, active skin care products.

Use natural, irritant-free make up.

Avoid excessive sun exposure and wear a good quality sunscreen.

Become familiar with what your skin can tolerate in terms of allergies or irritants.

Avoid foods that your body does not tolerate especially if they cause redness and inflammation.

WHAT WE CAN DO

LED Light Therapy uses light-emitting diode (LED) technology to activate and promote collagen production and increase the rate of skin cell renewal. This is an excellent therapy welltested for specifically targeting inflammation because of the way it promotes the healing of your skin while soothing and reducing redness. LED Light Therapy works to treat rosacea, broken capillaries and generally calms sensitive skin. By adjusting the intensity and colour spectrum of the light, treatment can be tailored to suit your specific needs and condition.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Skin Rejuvenation can dramatically reduce or, in some instances, even remove redness and broken capillaries. IPL uses light therapy to reduce the appearance of broken capillaries. It cauterises the dilated vein, returning it to a non-visible size, whilst also promoting collagen production in the targeted area.
